Gastroscopy is a safe procedure with low risk of possible complications. At Barrie Endoscopy, only diagnostic gastroscopies are performed and therefore risks are very low. Anaesthesia related complications are not common. Allergic reaction, IV site inflammation, nausea and vomiting occasionally develop after the procedure and may be related to the sedating agents. Perforation or bleeding are rare complications in diagnostic gastrocopy.
