You will be monitored and observed in a recovery bay for a period of time after your gastroscopy. When you are awake and alert, you will be discharged. You will require a ride home, as you will be unable to drive that day. You should be able to resume a normal diet. Your doctor will speak with you that day and the clinic will contact you by telephone afterward if there is any follow-up information, for instance regarding biopsies obtained during the procedure. Your family doctor will receive a full report of the results of your gastroscopy.
