Barrie Endoscopy Clinic is currently owned and operated by a group of eight local physicians. All physician partners have staff privileges at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital. All are committed to providing a high standard for medical care while delivering an effective new approach to cancer screening in an out of hospital environment. In addition to the partners group, we at Barrie Endoscopy also have a subgroup of physician associates performing endoscopic procedures.
Lindsay Crabbe, BSC, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Crabbe is a gastroenterologist who has been practicing in Barrie since 2013. She has active staff privileges at Royal Victoria Hospital. She attended medical school and completed her training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at McMaster University. She practices general gastroenterology with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. She is the current Medical Director of Barrie Endoscopy.
Peter Dauphinee MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Dauphinee is a General Surgeon who is on active staff of Royal Victoria Hospital. He has been practicing in Barrie since 2002. He attended medical school at Dalhousie University and his surgical training was at University of Toronto. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgical techniques.
Kyle Fortinsky MD, MBA, FRCP(C)
Dr. Fortinsky is a Gastroenterologist who has active staff privileges at Royal Victoria Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa in 2012. He completed his Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Residency programs at the University of Toronto in 2017. He then went on to complete an 18-month fellowship in pancreaticobiliary and therapeutic endoscopy at the University of California Irvine, including training in endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, enteral stenting, and advanced polypectomy.
Douglas J. Hemphill BSC, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Hemphill has been practicing Gastroenterology in Barrie since 1997. He attended medical school at McMaster and completed Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at the University of Toronto. He has active privileges at The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre where he is the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology. He is a Past President of the Medical Staff. He was the founding member of the Ontario Association of Clinic Endoscopists (OACE) and co-director of the annual meeting -Ambulatory Endoscopy Clinic Day (AECD). He is the Regional Colorectal Screening/GI Endoscopy Lead for the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program. He serves on the Medical Executive of Barrie Endoscopy.
George Kruzyk MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Kruzyk is a General Surgeon who has been practicing in Barrie since 1992. He is on active staff of Royal Victoria Hospital. He attended medical school at the University of Toronto and his surgical training at McMaster University in Hamilton. Dr. Kruzyk is currently the Head, Division of General Surgery. He has a special interest in computer technology in medicine. He is currently serving on the Medical Executive of Barrie Endoscopy.
Rima Petroniene PHD, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Petroniene is a Gastroenterologist who has been practicing in Barrie since 2003. She has active staff privileges at Royal Victoria Hospital and courtesy privileges at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston. She attended medical school and completed all of her training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Kaunas in Lithuania. Dr. Petroniene practices general Gastroenterology with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and capsule endoscopy. She is currently serving on the Medical Executive of Barrie Endoscopy.
Scott Powell BSC, MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Powell is a General Surgeon who has been practicing in Barrie since 2000. He has active staff privileges at Royal Victoria Hospital. He attended medical school at McMaster University and completed his General Surgery at McMaster in 1999. Dr. Powell has a special interest in laser surgery of varicose veins.
Bharat Sharma, BSC, MED, MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Sharma is a Colorectal Surgeon who has active staff privileges at Royal Victoria Hospital. He received his medical degree from Queen’s University in 2007. He completed his General Surgery Residency at University of Toronto in 2013. He then went on to complete an additional 2 year fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Toronto. His clinical interests are in minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat IBD and colorectal cancers.
Henry J. Stefanison BSC, MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Stefanison is a General Surgeon who has been practicing in Barrie since 1986. He attended Medical School at Queen’s University. Post graduate training in General Surgery was at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Dr. Stefanison practices general surgery and has a special interest in surgical management of breast cancer.
Ahsan Syed MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Ahsan Syed MD, FRCP(C) is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist practicing in Barrie since Nov 2021. He completed his undergraduate studies and medical school at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. He then went on to pursue internal medicine residency at Memorial University in St John’s, NL. He then completed Gastroenterology fellowship and Hepatology subspecialty fellowship at the University of Calgary. Dr Syed has a special interest in liver disease, and went on to complete a Transplant Hepatology fellowship at the University of Toronto. Dr Syed looks forward with great pleasure to providing care to patients in Barrie and the surrounding communities.
